Act 1: Dreams in Johannesburg
Zola Madiba, an 18-year-old girl from Soweto, Johannesburg, has always had music in her blood. Raised by a single mother who worked as a street vendor, Zola grew up surrounded by the rhythms of South African culture, from the soulful sounds of Kwaito to the energy of hip-hop. Her father, who passed away when she was young, had been a local poet, and Zola often writes her own rhymes as a way of keeping his memory alive.
